On Thursday 8 October, representatives of the SecTransNAS project (project 72) participated, together with counterpart projects including 55, 70 and 63, in the 3rd Online Meeting of the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence North Africa and Sahel Region.
This is certainly a coincidence, but it should be noted that most of these ongoing projects in the NAS region have in common, in addition to their inherent risk mitigation, the circulation aspect of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) substances. Two of them, including SecTransNAS, deal with the issue of their transport, the other two with their border crossing, but all of them, in terms of training of the various groups involved and capacity building both in terms of equipment and regulations …
This virtual meeting is a joint initiative of the European Union’s Directorate General for Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), which are the project management bodies of the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence. The aim of the virtual meeting was to take stock of the progress of the projects and, in particular, to exchange views on the measures to be adopted to deal with the obstacle posed by the pandemic to the smooth running of activities.
Enriching exchanges took place on this subject, although it is clear that the solutions envisaged and/or adopted cannot go beyond the possibilities offered by IT tools: online training, videoconferences, e-learning and, above all, a good dose of patience
